Text Box: Poem for Names

My daughter is two and knows horses,
recognizes their long backs
and four-legged walk.
She knows dogs from cats,
the difference
about their ears and noses.
She knows bunnies.
She knows frogs.
She knows men from women.
She names them.
She called you man
before she knew your name.
She calls every
woman on the street mommy.
And when you gallop down the hall
balancing her on your shoulders
she calls you horsey.
My daughter is two
and knows animals.
