No, the picture above is not from the cover of the book. It is something I might have done, or would do now. Providing an historical reference is one thing, but I could not bear to replicate the awful font that was the only decoration, in a horrid purple, on the cover of my first book. It gave the book the appearance of bad (really bad) vanity press.

The worse part was that I’d sent Borealis an 8 x 10  photo to use for the cover and they lost it. I sent in another copy of the photo, and they lost it again. Finally, they released the book without further counsel with me. It had only its title on the cover. Worse yet, the title was marred by an extended curl of the capital ‘r’ in a ridiculous font. So, phonetically, it read as a travesty of its intention. To A Young Hor_se. You understand my upset?

Anything would have been better. Here are two cover suggestions. One uses the photo that should have gone on the book, so it is pretty much what ‘should’ have happened. The other works off the concept of this site. All I can say is, I learned my lesson. I read every line of any contract, and for my second book I insisted on obtaining  ‘cover art approval’. That was an unhappy story, too, for the cover artist rather than me; but that story belongs elsewhere.
