                                   Oral Defense Report

After I defended my Thesis in a traditional Oral Examination on September 17, 1998, the thesis committee asked to meet privately. This is common procedure, as they needed to discuss their findings in order to render a judgment. However, what developed during that brief meeting was uncommon. When I re-entered the room, to my great pride, I was advised that my Thesis Committee had decided to add the following comments to their report:

"The thesis is distinguished by its honesty, reverence, scope and innovation. A polyphonic weaving of multiple discourses, it is a monumental work."

Thesis Committee Members:

Celia Haig-Brown, Carol Ann Wien, Joe Sheridan and great thanks go to Sean Kane as my External Thesis Examiner.
